Library Services Video Launch

Transform, Enrich and Inspire, that’s the message from the new Donegal County Council Library Services’ promotional video which was launched last night at simultaneous events in Leabharlann Phobail Ghaoth Dobhair and Central Library, Letterkenny.

Launching the video in Letterkenny Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh said ‘The Council is inspired by the intrinsic value of libraries and culture and by the idea of a county where high quality cultural experiences are enjoyed by those who live and visit Donegal.’ While in Ghaoth Dobhair Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said ‘We are very proud of our Library Service and our library staff and we want the world to know what we have to offer.’

Both Councillors encouraged everyone to share the video on social networking platforms so that we can show the world how the Donegal Library Service enriches the communities throughout the county, helping make it one of the coolest places on the planet.

Speaking about the initiative Senior Librarian, Donna Cavanagh, said ‘We identified the need for the development of a professionally designed comprehensive video that would promote libraries in Donegal as vibrant, busy, educational and cultural community hubs.’ She continued ‘Some people still think of libraries as a room full of books but we have a lot more to offer.

Libraries in the 21st century are integrated into the community and are accessible and available to all. The range of services we provide include EBooks and EMagazines, WIFI and internet access, online courses, local and family history, European information, book clubs, book and arts festivals, children’s story time and activities.’

The new video, which is available to view on the library website www.donegallibrary.ie, highlights the vibrancy of libraries and will hopefully encourage those who do not realise what libraries have to offer to go visit their local library. Donegal County Council provides a network of 13 libraries across the County with a cross border mobile serving the north and east of the county as well as a range of online services available on the library website.

So visit your local library where a warm welcome awaits you.
